Salmon Arm, British Columbia is located on the shores of Shuswap Lake at the entry of the Salmon River. Along with many communities of the B.C. Interior, Salmon Arm recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. The main economy of this Shuswap city is supported by forestry and tourism. The city has over 16,000 permanent residents. The City of Salmon Arm, BC was incorporated in 1905. Salmon Arm is 102 kilometres west of Revelstoke, BC and 107 kilometres east of Kamloops, BC. Vernon BC Canada is the closest larger city just 60 kilometres to the south of Salmon Arm. A vital part of the BC Interior economy in Canada, Salmon Arm is in the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District and has a population of about 17,000. Retail trade is the largest segment of the labour force, with manufacturing and construction, health care, accommodation, and education also included in the significant economic base. Building permits for residential housing units have been steady over the past decade with approximately 170 new housing starts per year worth about $30-40 million dollars.
Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival has been a large musical attraction for quite a few years, bring popular and recognizable acts back to entertain the summer crowds.
With a population of 16,012 residents, Salmon Arm BC is large enough to provide an excellent array of unique shops in and around the Downtown, and Piccadilly Square Mall. The largest of all Shuswap cities, Salmon Arm is a waterfront city with a smaller town feel where traffic is easy to navigate and young families can feel very comfortable. Salmon Arm's elevation is 396m above sea level with a latitude of 50 42'N and a longitude of 119 17'W.
Salmon Arm Dragonboat Festival is one of Canadian dragonboaters' favourite festivals on the water in BC Canada! Dragonboat teams from the Island, the Lower Mainland and US come each year to compete on Shuswap Lake in Salmon Arm BC, Canada.
Beaches and water fun include camping areas like Sunnybrae and Canoe.
